The Trip to Thailand was really fun...2 weeks there was really taxing and stressful. It is not the usual trip overseas where there are shopping time during certain day or whatsoever. We must stay in the resort at all times. I woke up daily to be finding my foreign friends practicing hard on their instruments. Like what I said to my juniors, fundamentals are the most important. The people spend most of their time on fundamentals. Which is a good thing...Because this proves that what i say is right. This also shows that I am doing my practice correctly too. We practice 10.5 hrs a day and we eat all the time. Meals are provided 24hrs a day. There isn't a time where we will be crying hungry at anytime of the day. Though the military has already left when we reached Thailand, But we faced Typhoons daily. Therefore it is really hard for us to even travel around in the resort. We had to take van to and fro our resort and rehearsal area. For us, Singaporeans, we woke extra an hour more as we are an hour ahead of Thailand's time. I learnt alot about musicality especially from Jerry funkin, conductor of Dallas Wind Symphony. The way he interprete the music is really fabulous and wonderful. I was totally amaze by the way he conduct the wind ensemble and the music. It's totally cool and so much better than... A_ _ M... We had masterclasses...For perc, the tutors taught us the Thailand style...totally different from what I have learnt and it's totally cool. They use different part of their hands and arms for different notes... we also learnt overtonesinging through this violinist called Garreth. He is totally amazing...During his recital at one of the nights, his overtonesinging literally filled up the whole hall. Although it was really tiring through out this 2 weeks, but we had fun moments too... The jokes we crack with our foreign friends and the languages that we learnt. We spend time with each other when we had free time and it really help us bond. Their cultures and traditions really sink me to the bottom of the ocean. It is really cool...So much better than Singapore... I hope I will have the honour to join them once again in next year SAYOWE 2007.
Signing off, Demonic Sebast
